Overbooked ophthalmologists, crowded waiting rooms and less and less available appointments is a problem that can be observed all over Germany. With eye diseases becoming more prevalent in the ageing population in the country, it is expected that the current deficit or unavailability of ophthalmology services will only worsen in the coming years.

To address the deficit in ophthalmology services in Eisenhüttenstadt there was a consensus between the opticians, optometrists and ophthalmologists of six different locations, that they needed to cooperate in order to fill the gap in the availability of ophthalmology services in the region.
